Underfloor heating

  • A wooden floor made by FINISH PARQUET is a number one choice when it comes to underfloor heating. Thanks to a perfect technological construction and best quality material – used in the manufacturing process – our floors work perfectly together with underfloor heating. Thermal transmission factor guarantees energy loss reduction to a minimum.

HIGHEST STABILITY THANKS TO A DOUBLE LAYER CONSTRUCTION

  • FINISH PARQUET is a two-layer floor. The top layer is about 6 mm thick and it’s made of completely solid, natural wood elements. Its single-fin properties perfectly accentuate aesthetic values of this unique material, while the newest production technology provides us with functional usage.
  • Bottom layer is a mosaic made of hard, leaf wood - mainly oak and ash. Joining layers perpendicularly implements crosswise wood grain structure of the top layer in relation to the bottom layer. This provides stabilization and prevents floor from deforming.

Surface preparation

  • Substrate, on which you install the floor, is mostly cement or anhydrite screed that covers the pipes from the underfloor heating. Before installing the parquet, the substrate must be carefully dried. After binding and hardening of the screed (time required for this process depends on the type and thickness of the screed) you initiate the process of thermal treatment. To do this, you have to turn on the underfloor heating, slowly increase the temperature (5 degrees per day), until you reach the maximum temperature of 26 degrees. After that, it’s recommended to keep the temperature at around 24 degrees for about 14 days. After this period of time you should reduce the temperature (5 degrees per day) until the top layer reaches 15-18 degrees and air humidity drops to 55%. During thermal treatment the substrate gives back the humidity, that freshly installed parquet would easily absorb.

  • You can start installing the parquet when the screed humidity does not exceed the value:
    • cement – 1,5-1,8%
    • anhydrite – 0,3%

  • Thermal treatment takes about 30 days and should be carried out directly before parquet installation.

Parquet installation

  • Parquet should be installed on already primed substrate. The substrate should be even, dry and stable. The method of installation depends on the type of substrate.
  • The floor should be glued to the substrate with elastic, polyurethane glue, which doesn’t get old when it comes in contact with higher temperatures. You should always remember, that a distance of 1 cm away from the wall is recommended.

Floor maintenance with underfloor heating

  • After installing the parquet you should slowly (not more than 5 degrees a day) increase the heating temperature until you reach the maximum. You should never allow faster temperature changes. Remember, that the parquet installed on the underfloor heating is more humidity sensitive, than a parquet installed on a regular substrate-there is a bigger difference between the state of highest dryness and the state of highest dampness. During winter months, when you use the underfloor heating, small gaps may appear. During summer, those gaps usually disappear.

How to avoid problems?

  • What’s most important, is a good project. Installing a wooden floor on underfloor heating requires a large number of factors concerning the heating system (such as heating elements and their location in the substrate), wood properties (possible shrinkage and thermal conductivity) and using supporting materials (primers and adhesives). That’s why we advise caution while choosing a construction company and the type of floor and heating system. It should be chosen carefully already during the process of designing the house.
